Riparian Struggles é uma rede de ativistas, artistas, pesquisadores, profissionais e moradores envolvidos em lutas relacionadas às águas e às diversas formas de vida que habitam suas margens. Conectando iniciativas no Brasil, na Indonésia e na Alemanha, a rede compartilha conhecimentos, práticas e estratégias entre diferentes territórios, entendendo as disputas locais pela água como parte de relações mais amplas e planetárias.
Nosso trabalho começou pelo desenvolvimento de uma ilustração que pudesse ser, ao mesmo tempo, abstrata e remeter à ideia de um mapa, reunindo diferentes texturas, formas e elementos associados a diversos corpos d’água. O desenho foi inicialmente produzido à mão, em um processo livre e intuitivo. A partir desse gesto, passamos a inserir, retirar e transformar elementos digitalmente, construindo uma paisagem visual a partir de diferentes formas de relação com a água nos contextos urbano, territorial e humano.
A partir da ilustração, também redesenhamos o logotipo do projeto, buscando trazer um caráter mais contemporâneo à identidade. A tipografia escolhida apresenta formas fluidas e dinâmicas, que remetem ao movimento da água e estabelecem uma relação direta entre o nome e a linguagem visual desenvolvida.
Esse sistema visual foi aplicado ao website do Riparian Struggles, criando um ambiente flexível para apresentar a rede, seus territórios e suas atividades. A identidade também se desdobrou em materiais impressos, como zines, pôsteres e cartões-postais, fazendo a linguagem do projeto circular por diferentes suportes e contextos.
Riparian Struggles is a network of activists, artists, practitioners, residents and researchers engaged in struggles around water and the diverse forms of life that inhabit its banks. Connecting initiatives in Brazil, Indonesia and Germany, the network shares knowledge, practices and tactics across territories, understanding local struggles over water as part of broader planetary relations.
Our work began with the development of an illustration that could be both abstract and evocative of a map, bringing together different textures, shapes and visual elements associated with diverse bodies of water. The drawing was initially created by hand, through a free and intuitive process. From this starting point, we digitally introduced, removed and transformed elements, gradually building a visual landscape based on different ways of relating to water across urban, territorial and human contexts.
From this illustration, we also redesigned the project’s logo, bringing a more contemporary character to the identity. The chosen typeface has fluid, dynamic forms that evoke the movement of water, establishing a visual connection between the wordmark and the broader graphic language.
The resulting visual system was brought together on the Riparian Struggles website, where illustration and typography create a flexible visual environment for the network and its activities. The identity was also extended to printed materials, including zines, posters and postcards, allowing the project’s visual language to flow across different media and contexts.
